Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International)

Role overview Set technical direction for backend identity services supporting expansion into international markets. The team develops identity data management, verification, and decisioning capabilities while adapting systems to varied regulatory requirements. Its work affects customer onboarding, risk assessment, approval outcomes, and the reliability of a shared global platform.

Responsibilities - Establish a technical strategy over a year-long horizon and connect it to high-impact delivery plans. - Work with product, design, analytics, and engineering partners to assess sustainability, risks, and trade-offs. - Define technical solutions and operational practices that help the team deliver effectively. - Own service availability through monitoring, alerting, testing, incident triage, playbooks, and on-call readiness. - Set and promote design and code review standards across the team and broader engineering organization. - Coach engineers through feedback, guidance, and role modeling.

Requirements - At least 8 years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale. - Experience building highly available distributed systems; Python or Kotlin and tools such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, or Kubernetes are relevant examples. - Track record of planning and delivering major system features or components, including retiring existing functionality when appropriate. - Ability to work from detailed implementation concerns through large-scale architecture, and to operate effectively amid ambiguity. - Strong written and verbal communication, including experience incorporating feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
