Software Developer

Role overview A software engineering role supporting the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of a federal health insurance oversight system. The position involves working across both legacy and modern application components, balancing production stability with incremental modernization in a complex regulatory environment.

Responsibilities - Design, develop, test, document, and maintain secure, production-quality software. - Build and support Java/Spring backend services, APIs, business logic, database integrations, and React- or Angular-based user interfaces. - Diagnose complex application, integration, data, and performance issues by analyzing existing code and system behavior. - Support legacy production applications while contributing to incremental modernization and maintainability improvements. - Write and optimize SQL queries, database objects, and data-access components using PostgreSQL. - Participate in code reviews, automated testing, defect resolution, release preparation, deployment validation, and production support. - Operate within AWS-hosted environments and established CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub.

Requirements - Bachelor’s degree plus at least four years of relevant software development experience. - Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy production systems on a federal program, including work within formal security, release, change-control, and operational-support processes. - Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills to balance new development with production stability. - Java/Spring backend expertise, proficiency with React and Angular, and PostgreSQL data-access experience.

Benefits and work setup - Base pay range of $97,500–$115,200 USD for candidates in select U.S. states and the District of Columbia. - Applications accepted on a rolling basis with no fixed deadline.
