Role overview A US-based remote Field CTO will serve as a market-facing technical leader reporting to the CEO. The position blends pre-sales influence with active engagement in consulting delivery, helping shape go-to-market direction while remaining close enough to the work to keep judgment current. Roughly ten-plus years in custom software consulting is expected, with the credibility to influence both engineers and executive buyers.
Responsibilities - Join deal teams to design architecture, scope, staging, and staffing for new consulting engagements, then stay present as a trusted technical voice after contracts are signed. - Represent the firm externally through talks, writing, and in-person event participation, building relationships that translate into pipeline. - Refine and sharpen service offerings based on observed market signals, with particular attention to agentic products and platform expertise. - Partner with growth leadership to identify and nurture relationships with cloud and AI platform partners. - Drive go-to-market direction, contributing a clear point of view on where to compete, what to say, and which opportunities deserve pursuit. - Mentor senior technologists and, as the practice expands, potentially lead a small team.
Requirements - 10+ years inside custom software consultancies, with experience on both the sales and delivery sides of the business. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to discuss architecture with engineering leaders and ROI with C-level buyers. - Demonstrated commercial fluency and the ability to make technical choices that protect project economics. - Active technical practice, whether through limited hands-on work or delivery responsibility, to keep knowledge current. - Leadership through influence, sharp questioning, broad cross-domain judgment, and high interpersonal standards. - Recognized presence in technical communities, with a public footprint that draws senior engineers' attention.
Nice to have - Track record of pitching and winning enterprise engagements inside a consultancy. - Public technical presence including talks, writing, or community leadership. - Experience shaping service offerings or a firm's market-facing technical point of view. - Relationships with cloud or AI platform partners and the standing that comes with them. - Working understanding of where AI and agentic tooling is heading. - Experience mentoring senior technical talent.
