Working Student Designer (Design System) – Heartbeat AI (m/f/d)

Role overview

Join a product design team as a working student focused on the shared design system for an energy software product. You will help build and maintain the visual and interaction language used across the product by improving components, design tokens, patterns, and documentation, while working closely with designers and engineers.

Responsibilities

- Contribute to a scalable, code-aligned design system and help maintain consistency across the product. - Audit, organize, and document components, tokens, and interface patterns. - Create reusable building blocks that make design-to-engineering handoff clearer and faster. - Use Figma and AI-assisted tools such as Claude or Cursor to explore, document, and iterate efficiently. - Collaborate with designers and engineers, ask useful questions, and make design decisions easy to understand. - Balance proactive execution with careful thinking about system structure and long-term maintainability.

Requirements

- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in UX, interaction design, HCI, visual communication, or a related field. - Interest in how component, token, and naming decisions scale across a product. - Ability to identify gaps, propose next steps, and follow through with appropriate autonomy. - A thoughtful approach to design-system architecture and a willingness to learn when facing unfamiliar problems. - Interest in using AI as a practical part of the design workflow, with examples or a clear willingness to demonstrate how. - Care for visual quality, interaction details, and consistency; academic projects are welcome. - Clear communication in English; German is an advantage.
