Staff Engineer

Role overview

Own the technical direction and continued evolution of a real-time payments and money-movement platform handling very large transaction volumes. The position is a hands-on staff engineering role involving distributed-systems architecture, cross-team execution, platform reliability, and the responsible use of AI to improve software delivery.

Responsibilities

- Shape architecture for critical services that must remain reliable and financially correct at scale. - Define platform patterns for event-driven systems and cross-team integration. - Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives from initial design through production rollout. - Account for failure modes such as retries, duplicate processing, and reconciliation requirements. - Set practical standards for AI-assisted development, including code generation, testing, debugging, and incident investigation. - Work with engineering and product leaders, mentor experienced engineers, and improve organization-wide reliability and developer experience.

Requirements

- Deep experience building and evolving distributed, cloud-native software systems. - Proven ability to lead architecture and execution across multiple engineering teams. - Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, performance, and operational quality. - Experience making sound trade-offs between immediate delivery and sustainable platform design. - Ability to influence technical decisions, communicate clearly, and mentor senior practitioners. - Familiarity with systems where correctness under failure is essential.

Nice to have

- Experience introducing AI-supported workflows across an engineering organization. - Background with domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, agile methods, or test-driven development.
