About this role
Role overview Senior backend engineering role focused on turning regulatory requirements and organizational policy into executable controls for AI systems. The work centers on a compliance engine that can enforce decisions at inference time, introduce human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and create reliable evidence for audits. The position is listed as London-based with remote flexibility within a trust and compliance function.
Responsibilities - Develop a policy engine that applies compliance rules and human-review gates while models and agents are running. - Translate relevant provisions of the EU AI Act, including Articles 5 and 9–15, into executable software controls. - Model GDPR Article 35 obligations and customer-specific policies in a form that can be evaluated consistently at runtime. - Produce immutable, auditor-grade records for model calls, agent actions, decisions, and control outcomes. - Work with governance, risk, and compliance specialists to maintain the control library as regulations evolve.
Requirements - Strong backend engineering experience and an authentic interest in governance, regulation, and policy implementation. - Ability to read legal or regulatory language carefully and express its meaning as precise, testable code. - High standards for correctness, traceability, and operational rigor. - Comfort working on systems where reliability and evidence are as important as feature delivery.
Nice to have - Previous experience in regulatory technology, security engineering, compliance platforms, or related tooling.
Benefits and work setup - Senior full-time position with London or remote working options. - Remote availability across the UK, EU, and selected global time zones. - Seed-stage equity allocation and cash compensation benchmarked against leading London and remote markets.
