Data Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A remote Data Engineer position inside a Business Intelligence function that owns a trusted data warehouse and the analytics the wider organisation depends on. The work centres on building reliable, scalable data models and pipelines in a GCP, dbt, and Power BI stack, with a strong emphasis on getting numbers right and delivered on time. It suits a hands-on SQL specialist who enjoys taking ownership and partnering closely with reporting teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models, transformations, and pipelines across BigQuery and dbt. - Integrate data from a variety of sources, including internal databases, APIs, file feeds, and third-party providers. - Convert reporting requirements into well-tested, clearly documented datasets that downstream teams can trust. - Build validation rules, quality checks, and monitoring so data issues are caught early rather than propagating downstream. - Ensure daily data loads complete correctly and on schedule, and respond to data-related problems as they arise.
Requirements
- Deep SQL expertise, including the ability to write and debug complex queries and reason about the data underneath. - Significant production experience with ELT pipelines, data integration, and data modelling. - Strong grasp of data warehouse design principles and data quality assurance practices. - A self-reliant, accountable approach: able to own issues and follow them through to resolution.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience designing and building models in dbt. - Comfort with Python for moving and integrating data across GCP services. - Practical BigQuery experience, or equivalent work in a comparable cloud warehouse. - Familiarity with star-schema design and semantic modelling for Power BI. - Confidence with Git-based version control and CI/CD workflows, ideally including GitLab. - Background working with brokerage, banking, asset management, payments, or fintech data.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-friendly setup with flexibility to work from home, from an office, or a mix of the two. - Flexible benefits package that can be tailored to individual circumstances rather than a fixed bundle. - Informal, collaborative culture with low bureaucracy and genuine room to drive change. - Ongoing training, learning programmes, and stretch opportunities to deepen expertise in a fast-moving industry. - Regular team events and the chance to collaborate with colleagues across many regions, supporting a client base that spans more than 100 countries.
