Technical Lead - Backend (Java / Spring Boot)

Role overview Provide hands-on technical leadership for a backend workstream in a fast-moving, product-led environment. You will set implementation direction, contribute code, guide engineers, and own delivery outcomes while helping the team use AI-assisted development with sound engineering judgment.

Responsibilities - Build and maintain Java services, including REST APIs and Kafka-based event-driven pipelines. - Shape technical solutions, make implementation decisions, and integrate with third-party services. - Own workstream delivery: plan upcoming work, estimate with product and delivery partners, track milestones, and address risks early. - Keep ownership, blockers, decisions, and progress clear to the team and stakeholders. - Coach engineers and support a high bar for readable, maintainable, well-tested code. - Guide the team’s use of AI coding tools, ensuring generated changes fit the codebase and receive human review.

Requirements - Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot experience building backend services. - Experience with REST APIs and event-driven systems such as Kafka. - Ability to lead delivery and technical decisions in situations where requirements and priorities may change. - Good communication and a track record of helping engineers grow. - Commitment to testing during development; test-driven approaches are encouraged.

Nice to have Experience with AWS, Kubernetes and containers, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, security practices, or AI integrations. Familiarity with full DevOps ownership is useful.
