Senior Backend Engineer - Global Marts

Role overview Senior backend engineering role on a team that builds the technology behind large-scale grocery and retail operations, spanning inventory, purchasing, warehousing, fulfillment, pricing, and vendor management. The work is data-heavy and operational, blending software engineering with forecasting and optimization to solve complex problems across multiple international markets.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and operate backend systems supporting inventory, purchasing, warehouse operations, pricing, and fulfillment - Take end-to-end ownership of technical solutions, from problem definition and design through deployment, monitoring, and production operation - Tackle data-heavy systems where software engineering meets forecasting, optimization, and operational decision-making - Translate complex and sometimes ambiguous business problems into pragmatic, scalable technical solutions - Make and influence architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, development speed, and long-term maintainability - Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and operations teams across multiple markets - Improve reliability, observability, scalability, and operational excellence of owned systems - Raise team engineering standards through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing - Use AI-assisted development tools effectively while applying strong engineering judgment to validate output

Requirements - Senior-level experience building and operating production backend systems - Strong proficiency in Go or Kotlin - Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of technical initiatives in complex environments - Comfort working on data-heavy systems that combine software engineering with forecasting or optimization - Track record of influencing architectural decisions at scale - Ability to collaborate across engineering, product, data science, and operations disciplines

Nice to have - Experience with forecasting, optimization, scheduling, recommendation, or decisioning systems - Background in grocery, retail, logistics, supply chain, or warehouse technology - Familiarity with ERP, vendor management, procurement, or workforce management integrations - Experience replacing third-party or legacy platforms with internally built systems - Exposure to high-throughput event-driven or streaming architectures
