Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, Build Loop
Job details
About this role
Role overview A platform engineering team is hiring a senior engineer to lead its developer productivity and build-loop work. The role focuses on shaping the scaffolding, tooling, and deployment story that lets product teams stand up new backend services quickly and reliably, while steadily migrating a large existing estate into a modern monorepo. It is a remote, full-time, permanent position based in Argentina, reporting to a senior engineering manager.
Responsibilities - Design and build Nest.js service scaffolding so new backend services are usable on day one rather than after a week of wiring. - Implement paved paths, generators, and platform primitives that remove repeated setup work for product engineers. - Own the deployment story for services and web apps on edge infrastructure, including interoperability with existing AWS and Kubernetes environments managed through Pulumi and Argo CD. - Lead migrations of substantial codebases into the monorepo and turn each one into a repeatable recipe rather than a bespoke effort. - Partner directly with product teams as platform customers, treating their adoption as the measure of success and their friction as the backlog. - Encode learnings into tooling, generators, and agent-assisted workflows so each migration costs less than the last. - Contribute to engineering citizenship through blog writing, hiring process work, and internal hackathon leadership.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. - 5+ years building and operating backend services in production. - Demonstrated experience designing service boundaries, contracts, and data ownership, not only implementing within them. - Business-level fluency reading, writing, and speaking in English. - Fluency in TypeScript and Node, with comfort in edge runtimes. - Hands-on experience with monorepo tooling at scale (Nx, Turborepo, or similar) and a clear view on why build-graph correctness matters. - Track record of treating migrations as engineering: budgeting for silent failures, verifying generated output, and favoring behavior-preserving translation over silent improvements.
Nice to have - Prior work inside a large, heavily-coupled codebase extracting or bypassing functionality incrementally behind behavior-preserving contracts. - A considered view on cross-cloud workload placement and the latency and cost trade-offs of crossing cloud boundaries. - Strong written communication so work is pick-upable from the ticket, with willingness to flag when the fast answer and the right answer diverge. - Active curiosity about AI-assisted workflows and emerging developer tools.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first setup with permanent, full-time employment status (not a contractor role). - Equity participation for permanent employees. - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with most premiums covered. - 12 weeks of paid parental leave for all parents, plus extended leave for birthing parents, with additional support for family planning, menopause, and midlife transitions. - Flexible vacation, paid holidays, and a sabbatical program. - Mental health resources, therapy, and coaching access. - Retirement support, including a 401(k) with up to 100% employer match (capped) for U.S. employees and global retirement savings support. - Localized monthly stipends for work and wellness expenses. - Annual bonus program eligibility for full-time permanent non-commission employees. - Reasonable accommodations available during the hiring process and throughout employment.
