About this role
Role overview Lead systems engineering for complex, multi-phase defense and aerospace programs, guiding technical delivery from architecture through integration and verification. Alongside serving as a senior technical authority, you will manage and develop a team of about 10 engineers, with people leadership accounting for roughly one fifth of the role.
Responsibilities - Set system architecture, integration plans, verification strategies, and technical baselines to meet mission and customer needs. - Coordinate engineering work across multiple teams and major subcontractors, monitoring technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk. - Lead or support major reviews, including requirements, preliminary and critical design, and test readiness reviews. - Represent engineering with senior leaders and government customers; manage statements of work, supplier inputs, and subcontractor deliverables. - Coach project engineers and functional leads, improve engineering practices, and contribute to proposals, estimating, and business capture.
Requirements - 15 years of project engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred. - Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk based engineering. - Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and subcontractors, including functional management of small technical teams. - Strong analytical, written, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills. - Familiarity with project planning tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera, and ability to maintain systems engineering and configuration practices. - Controllable solid rocket propulsion leadership experience; ability to obtain and maintain the required U.S. security clearance.
Benefits and work setup The role can be remote or hybrid, based in Folsom, Reno, Huntsville, Long Beach, or elsewhere remotely. Travel is approximately 20%. Candidates must meet U.S. person requirements for export controlled work and be eligible for required export authorizations. Compensation is location dependent; the listing gives California and Nevada ranges of $169,490–$279,160 and $161,016–$265,202, respectively.
