Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the end-to-end user experience and interface design for a large, live social game. You’ll clarify how players discover features, navigate menus, and complete key tasks, while establishing design foundations that help product, game design, art, and engineering teams deliver a consistent experience. The opportunity starts as a six-month contract, with possible extension or conversion to full-time.
Responsibilities - Review the existing interface and map player journeys to find points of confusion, friction, or drop-off. - Use player data, community feedback, competitive research, and playtesting to identify and prioritize improvements with product leadership. - Define information architecture and player flows, then create annotated wireframes and prototypes for implementation. - Design polished screens and reusable components, specifying layout, hierarchy, and interface states in collaboration with art. - Work with engineers during implementation and use post-launch analytics to evaluate and refine changes. - Document UX and UI standards so new features remain coherent as the game evolves.
Requirements - At least 3 years of UI/UX or product design experience, owning both user experience and visual interface work shipped in games or consumer mobile apps. - A portfolio showing research and process, including flows, information architecture, and wireframes, as well as finished interface design. - Shipped mobile-first work and a strong understanding of touch interaction, small screens, tap targets, and thumb reach. - Strong information architecture and visual design skills, including layout, hierarchy, typography, iconography, and component design. - Experience using analytics, research, and community feedback to guide design choices. - Clear communication and collaboration skills, and availability to work hours overlapping U.S. Eastern and Pacific time zones; Pacific overlap is preferred.
Nice to have - Experience with live-service or free-to-play mobile games, or improving an inherited interface on a live product. - Experience maintaining a design system or component library, designing for young audiences, or conducting playtests, usability studies, or surveys. - Prototyping experience beyond standard design files, such as in-engine work; familiarity with Roblox interface conventions or its studio tools is a plus.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first team, with flexible paid time off and professional development reimbursement. Permanent employees may receive compensation, profit sharing, stock options, retirement contributions, and health coverage; the role begins as a contract, so benefits may depend on employment status.
