Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior Cloud Cost Optimization Program Manager is being hired to drive a large-scale FinOps program for a major technology organization. The role blends financial analysis, technical program leadership, and cloud infrastructure expertise, working directly with cloud provider partners, engineering teams, and senior leadership. The ideal candidate can translate cloud usage data into initiatives that engineering will actually execute, not just produce cost reports.
Responsibilities - Partner with AWS and GCP account and technical teams to identify savings opportunities, resolve billing or data issues, and drive optimization commitments to completion. - Build and manage a pipeline of cost reduction initiatives spanning compute, storage, networking, and platform services. - Scope, prioritize, and track initiatives such as rightsizing, commitment optimization, architecture changes, and workload migrations with engineering teams. - Monitor spend, anomalies, forecasts, and optimization signals, proactively flagging risks and improvement areas. - Analyze cloud billing, usage, tagging, and allocation data to support savings validation. - Prepare financial analyses, business cases, forecasts, and savings reports for senior and executive stakeholders. - Translate complex infrastructure and financial data into clear recommendations and decision narratives. - Own recurring cost governance and reporting cadences, and improve processes for tagging, forecasting, allocation, and tracking. - Manage timelines, dependencies, risks, and deliverables across multiple engineering and business teams.
Requirements - Significant experience running FinOps or cloud cost optimization programs at enterprise scale. - Multi-cloud exposure across both AWS and GCP. - Strong working knowledge of tools such as Apptio Cloudability or CloudHealth, native CSP billing and cost management consoles, and SQL against cost and usage datasets. - Familiarity with data pipelines, reporting platforms, and established FinOps frameworks. - Ability to influence engineering and executive stakeholders without direct authority. - Comfort with significant overlap to Pacific Time working hours.
Nice to have - Experience shaping cloud cost governance practices inside a complex, multi-team engineering organization.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role open to candidates based in the United States and Canada. - US-based candidates are engaged on a W-2 contract basis; visa sponsorship is not available. - Paid time off after the first three months, plus applicable local holidays. - Long-term engagement with exposure to senior engineering leaders, cloud specialists, cloud provider partners, and executive stakeholders.
