Remote job
Firmware Automation Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build the automation that keeps server, network, and accelerator firmware current across a large infrastructure fleet. The work spans low-level hardware management and deployment safety: updates should roll out efficiently while health checks, staged releases, and recovery paths limit the impact of faulty firmware.
Responsibilities - Develop automated firmware rollout pipelines for servers, switches, and accelerators. - Manage firmware across BIOS/UEFI, baseboard management controllers, InfiniBand adapters, network switches, and GPUs. - Use Redfish and IPMI APIs to discover, inventory, configure, and update bare-metal systems. - Collect and assess post-update health signals, and automate rollback when a device fails checks. - Integrate firmware workflows with provisioning and configuration management using tools such as SaltStack or Ansible. - Investigate hardware errata and coordinate fixes for security vulnerabilities and performance issues with vendors and internal engineering teams.
Requirements - Experience automating firmware updates across large fleets rather than handling devices individually. - Practical knowledge of Redfish and IPMI for hardware management. - Ability to assess device health after updates and design safe unattended recovery procedures. - Proficiency in Python, Go, or advanced shell scripting, plus configuration management tools such as Ansible or SaltStack.
Nice to have - Experience with OpenBMC or custom BMC firmware. - Familiarity with NVIDIA or Mellanox firmware utilities such as mstflint or mlxup. - Firmware operations experience in AI/ML clusters or high-performance computing environments.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role within the EU; full-time and permanent. - Compensation includes cash and equity, with additional benefits.
