R&D DevSecOps Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Develop secure software, AI-enabled engineering tools, and delivery workflows for government and defense missions. This hands-on R&D position combines backend and application development with generative AI and DevSecOps, including controls that make AI-assisted changes traceable, tested, and subject to human review. The work is remote within the United States and requires citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
Responsibilities
- Build backend services, APIs, data workflows, and AI-supported applications. - Create coding-agent and LLM workflows with approval steps, auditable prompt history, and controlled access to tools. - Add automated policies and CI/CD checks for architecture, security, testing, accessibility, and deployment standards. - Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, API references, and software bills of materials. - Use AI-assisted analysis to assess legacy applications and support modernization options, then integrate code into automated quality and compliance testing. - Build hardened development environments and security automation; work with mission and platform teams to move prototypes toward operational use.
Requirements
- Strong software development skills, especially in Python, and experience building backend services, APIs, integrations, or data-driven applications. - Experience with generative AI, LLM applications, coding agents, or AI-assisted development. - Experience in DevSecOps, CI/CD, cloud-native development, or platform engineering. - Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, automated testing, security scanning, and infrastructure as code. - Understanding of application architecture, secure coding, code review, debugging, and software supply-chain security. - Ability to take an evolving technical problem from concept through implementation and demonstration; U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and retain a government clearance.
Nice to have
- Active Secret clearance or higher; experience with Platform One, Party Bus, Big Bang, Iron Bank, or defense software factories. - Familiarity with agent frameworks, workflow tools, databases, cloud platforms, infrastructure tools, or CI/CD systems listed in the source. - Knowledge of government security frameworks and practices, including NIST, RMF, STIGs, CMMC, or continuous authorization. - Experience with security testing, SBOMs, dependency scanning, observability, legacy modernization, or classified and disconnected environments.
Benefits and work setup
The role is remote in the United States. Benefits include a 401(k) match up to 6%, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage, paid time off and holidays, home-office support, wellness reimbursement, technical certification support, and advancement opportunities.
