Design Engineer

Role overview

This is a design-engineering hybrid role focused on an AI infrastructure product that lets developers connect applications and agents to a large catalog of models through a single API key. The position owns product design and frontend implementation across surfaces such as the dashboard, public website, CLI, and API responses. The team operates in a fast-moving environment where model providers and workloads shift weekly, and shipped work has direct customer impact.

Responsibilities

- Own product design and frontend implementation for the journey from model discovery to making a first successful request and operating AI in production - Design and build production experiences across web, dashboard, CLI, and API surfaces, choosing the right medium for each problem - Make models, providers, credentials, routing, budgets, logs, performance, privacy, and governance understandable while preserving control for advanced users - Talk directly with customers and use product data to define problems, set success criteria, and weigh tradeoffs - Take ownership of post-launch quality, including visual and interaction craft, accessibility, performance, resilience, and instrumentation - Use coding agents to explore and implement ideas quickly while testing, debugging, and owning the code that ships

Requirements

- A portfolio that shows problems personally identified, designed, built, shipped, and measured after launch - Production-quality experience building web applications with React and TypeScript inside a large existing codebase - Strong visual and interaction craft applied to technical or data-rich products - Ability to move between graphical interfaces, CLI workflows, API behavior, and implementation details - A user-research- and data-driven approach to decision-making - Practical daily use of coding agents, paired with the ability to explain, test, and debug the code they produce

Nice to have

- Experience with developer tools, infrastructure products, model marketplaces, or observability surfaces - Background working with AI models, inference platforms, guardrails, or AI application tooling - Familiarity with APIs, command-line tools, structured product content, or agent-facing interfaces
