About this role
Role overview Partner with an established product design team at a consumer outdoor exploration platform on a U.S.-based, fully remote contract engagement. This Senior or Lead-level freelance role works at the intersection of craft, product thinking, and technical curiosity, helping ship experiences used by a large global community of outdoor enthusiasts. The engagement is project-based, scoped to roughly five to six months at up to 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Lead design projects from user research and behavior exploration through iteration and final execution across iOS, Android, and web surfaces. - Translate qualitative and quantitative insights into product features and improvements, learning from post-launch performance to evolve the work. - Craft experiences that communicate membership value and scale across different markets while maintaining local relevance. - Evolve the overall visual and motion language, systemizing visual and motion effects to guide user attention and confirm actions, and contributing to a shared design system. - Use front-end code and AI tools as creative mediums to explore, communicate, and advance design work, while partnering closely with cross-functional teammates and stakeholders.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience researching, designing, and shipping consumer-facing digital product features across iOS, Android, and web, with extensive B2C experience required. - Demonstrated success taking ideas from concept through release and using post-launch performance to refine them; ability to prioritize critical tasks, estimate scope accurately, and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes on schedule. - Strong product execution grounded in sharp visual, interaction, and motion design judgment, paired with solid branding and illustration skills plus a strong grasp of color theory and visual storytelling. - Ability to facilitate constructive feedback, provide design direction to cross-functional teammates, and drive stakeholder buy-in for high-impact initiatives. - AI fluency: skilled at crafting effective prompts, supplying useful context, critically evaluating AI-generated output, and steering results toward a high-quality product. - Strong design systems thinking, balancing speed with long-term system health, complemented by an active online presence and ability to grow communities digitally.

Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote within the United States, fixed-term contract for approximately 5 to 6 months, up to 30 hours per week. - Hourly compensation of $100 to $130, with the specific title and rate determined by background and experience. - Ideal start window falls in late September or early October 2026, with engagement running through approximately March 19, 2027. - Additional compliance requirements apply to contractors based in California, Colorado, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Washington; the organization is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse team.
