Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior design leadership role within an in-house Experience Design team, focused on a consumer property platform. The position leads a team of three Product Designers, owns the design vision for two core product pillars, and partners with senior product and engineering leaders to shape long-term domain direction. It is primarily a leadership and craft role, with hands-on contribution where it meaningfully advances the work.
Responsibilities - Line-manage, coach, and develop a team of three Product Designers, setting clear goals and providing ongoing feedback to support growth. - Define and own the design vision for the Move and Home pillars, aligning with broader product strategy and business goals. - Maintain a high bar for craft and quality across the team's output, applying consistent judgement and taste at scale. - Drive design system contribution and adoption, ensuring consistency and reuse in coordination with peer design leads and brand. - Conduct strategic research to surface user problems and opportunities, and translate them into a long-term product vision. - Influence direction across disciplines and seniority levels through clear communication in meetings, written artefacts, and async formats. - Champion inclusive and accessible design practice, and represent the design function both internally and externally.
Requirements - Proven experience managing and developing product designers. - Strong design craft, taste, and judgement, with the ability to hold a quality bar across others' work. - Deep expertise in design systems, interaction patterns, and scalable frameworks. - Familiarity with the design challenges of complex multi-sided platforms or marketplaces. - Strategic thinking that balances business and commercial goals with user needs and long-term vision. - Strong collaboration, communication, and storytelling skills, including the ability to influence without formal authority. - A growth mindset, curiosity about new tools and approaches, and an open, proactive stance toward using AI responsibly in design workflows.
Nice to have - Experience informing domain strategy by weighing risks, trends, and trade-offs against commercial metrics. - Track record of contributing to brand and design system standards across a wider organisation.
Benefits and work setup - Hybrid working: two days per week in a central London office (Soho) and three days from home. - Report into the Lead Product Design Manager for Consumer and operate as part of the Experience Design leadership team. - An organisational approach that treats AI as a tool for creating more space for the human side of product work, with an expectation to explore it proactively.
