About this role
Role overview The Senior Technical Writer on the C2 Engineering team turns complex engineering knowledge into clear, validated documentation for a defense-technology platform that builds uncrewed vessels, ground robotics, aircraft, autonomy software, and command-and-control systems. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the role covers cloud deployment, observability, troubleshooting, onboarding, upgrades, and rollback procedures across multiple product lines.
Responsibilities - Create product guides that explain what each command-and-control product does, when to use it, and how to operate it safely - Write deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, onboarding, upgrade, rollback, and recovery procedures - Document cloud deployment workflows including prerequisites, configuration, validation, handover, and common failure paths - Build observability and dashboard guides explaining metrics, normal versus degraded states, and escalation paths - Create symptom-based runbooks for cloud platforms, uncrewed vehicle behavior, telemetry, connectivity, Kubernetes, infrastructure, and dependent services - Document uncrewed vehicle onboarding from access setup through registration, configuration, pairing, health checks, and readiness confirmation - Maintain release notes, compatibility notes, known limitations, and upgrade guidance - Establish a lightweight documentation process with owners, reviewers, statuses, versioning, and labeling
Requirements - 5+ years in technical writing, developer documentation, SRE/operations documentation, solutions engineering, or a comparable technical role - Experience documenting complex software, cloud, infrastructure, robotics, IoT, or mission-critical systems - Working knowledge of cloud platforms, Linux, containers or Kubernetes, CI/CD, APIs, networking, logs, metrics, and Grafana - Ability to understand distributed systems well enough to document behavior, dependencies, and failure modes - Experience turning incomplete or conflicting engineering input into clear, reviewable documentation - Strong information architecture, documentation lifecycle, and versioning discipline, plus awareness of access-controlled or export-sensitive information
Nice to have - Experience in defense, robotics, uncrewed systems, command-and-control, air-gapped, regulated, or high-assurance environments - Familiarity with Kubernetes, ArgoCD, K3s, cloud deployments, observability stacks, or incident response workflows - Experience writing for Forward Deployed Engineers, operators, support teams, customer engineers, or field teams - Exposure to telemetry, vehicle onboarding, mission systems, or constrained and low-connectivity environments - Ability to create useful diagrams, decision trees, tables, screenshots, templates, and examples
