Senior Research Engineer, SWE

Role overview This senior research engineering position focuses on improving software-engineering AI agents, designing the data, environments, and benchmarks that help coding models plan, understand, and execute complex development tasks. The role combines foundational research with hands-on engineering across synthetic data, reinforcement learning, and agentic evaluation.

Responsibilities - Investigate how coding agents and software-engineering models plan, write, and debug across multi-step development workflows. - Build RL environments, synthetic data pipelines, and benchmarks tailored to software-engineering capabilities. - Develop research-grade prototypes, tooling, and evaluation frameworks; train, test, and assess models with modern ML tools. - Translate research findings into practical improvements by collaborating with research, engineering, product, and operations teams. - Share insights through technical reports, open-source contributions, workshops, or conference participation at venues like ICLR, ICML, or NeurIPS. - Establish practices for experimental rigor, reproducibility, and data quality across studies.

Requirements - Research background in machine learning, AI systems, or adjacent disciplines. - Proficiency with modern AI and ML tooling for model training, testing, and evaluation. - Ability to design rigorous experiments and iterate from hypothesis to validated insight. - Strong communication skills for both specialized researchers and cross-functional audiences. - Track record of contributing to AI research through publications, open-source work, or industry equivalents.

Nice to have - Direct experience with software-engineering datasets, coding benchmarks, or RL environments for code generation. - Familiarity with computer-use, browser-use, or function-calling agent design. - Background in agentic AI evaluation across long-range, multi-step workflows in domains such as finance, retail, and developer tools.
