Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, AI Automation
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering role embedded with an intelligence operations team, focused on building AI-powered internal products that meaningfully accelerate how analysts collect and act on information. The position sits at the intersection of analyst workflows, back-end systems, and applied AI, with a strong emphasis on shipping durable, sticky products rather than narrow one-off automations.
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with intelligence analysts to understand their goals, constraints, and day-to-day workflows, and translate those into technical solutions with clear success criteria. - Identify the highest-leverage opportunities to improve intelligence collection, applying a product lens rather than just an engineering one, and productize the work so it is durable and widely adopted. - Design, build, and own AI-powered internal applications end-to-end, including back-end services, APIs, data storage, supporting infrastructure, and user-facing interfaces. - Develop custom agentic workflows leveraging modern AI models to augment and scale intelligence work. - Own projects end-to-end, from technical design and architecture through scoping, delivery, iteration, and ongoing support. - Build reliable, scalable systems that analysts depend on day to day, and iterate based on measurable outcomes.
Requirements
- 6+ years of full-stack software engineering experience building scalable web applications, services, and APIs. - Strong product sense, with the ability to zoom out, identify the highest-impact and most scalable solution, and ship it as something people actually keep using. - Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript, with strong back-end and systems engineering skills. - Experience with back-end systems, datastores such as Postgres, pgvector, Pinecone, or Redis, and designing APIs. - Hands-on experience with modern AI tools and models, including AI-enabled workflows or prototypes. - Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with semi-technical stakeholders. - Comfort operating independently in ambiguous problem spaces with a high degree of ownership and initiative.
Nice to have
- Background as either a back-end/systems-leaning engineer or a data/ML-leaning engineer; both profiles can thrive here. - Experience acting as a technical anchor and leading projects within a weekly sprint cadence. - Comfort working with teammates across U.S. Eastern and Pacific time zones, with at least six hours of overlap with Pacific time.
