Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building the technical foundation for a fast-growing retail vertical within a larger restaurant and local-business technology platform. The team partners closely with operators at large grocery stores and convenience chains, gathering direct feedback to shape integrations, back-office tools, and platform capabilities that go beyond what currently exists. The position is remote in the US, with hybrid options available in Boston and New York.
Responsibilities - Collaborate with engineering and product leaders to identify high-impact opportunities across the retail domain. - Plan, scope, and prototype features end-to-end, considering the full system rather than just one part of the stack. - Make architectural decisions that shape the long-term direction of the retail platform. - Engage directly with customers and operators through site visits and conversations to understand workflows and pain points. - Stay current on industry trends and translate them into product improvements. - Build AI-native product experiences powered by an internal intelligence platform.
Requirements - 6+ years of experience shipping production software to customers. - Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or another object-oriented programming language. - Comfort working across multiple tech stacks and languages. - Familiarity with testing methodologies and frameworks. - A growth mindset with strong emphasis on learning and team improvement. - Comfort with ambiguity and a startup-style approach to building products. - Passion for understanding users and seeing products adopted in the real world.
Nice to have - Direct experience with retail operators, grocery chains, or convenience store workflows. - Background in building integrations or back-office tooling for large-scale customers.
