Senior IT Systems Engineer

Role overview

This is a US-based senior engineering role focused on designing, building, and continuously improving the internal systems that support a growing technology business. The position owns automation, integrations, and enterprise platform improvements across core IT systems, partnering with IT operations, security, and internal automation teams to turn recurring support issues into durable solutions. It is a hands-on engineering role rather than a primarily ticket-driven support role, taking projects from discovery through implementation and operational handoff.

Responsibilities

- Own administration and improvement of enterprise platforms, reviewing configurations, access, and capabilities to improve security and usability - Design, build, test, document, and maintain automated workflows and integrations that reduce manual work and enable reliable employee self-service - Partner with IT operations to investigate complex escalations, identify root causes, and replace recurring issues with scalable technical or process improvements - Lead systems engineering projects from requirements gathering through rollout, monitoring, and operational handoff, balancing business needs, security, reliability, and maintenance effort - Work with security, internal automation, business stakeholders, and vendors to support secure use of enterprise technology and internal tooling - Contribute to systems, processes, and documentation that support future regulated environment requirements as the program develops

Requirements

- Eight or more years of relevant IT systems engineering experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating senior-level technical ownership - Strong hands-on administration and engineering experience across multiple enterprise platforms, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, AWS, identity providers, or endpoint management systems - Experience personally building and maintaining automated workflows, integrations, or self-service solutions using APIs, scripting, or automation platforms - Strong troubleshooting skills, including using logs and command-line tools to investigate complex issues, identify root causes, and implement durable improvements - Sound judgment around access controls, data security, testing, change management, and rollback, with an understanding of build-versus-buy trade-offs and ongoing maintenance - Experience independently delivering technical projects, managing competing priorities, and communicating clearly with engineers, operational teams, and business stakeholders

Nice to have

- Previous experience with regulated environments, CMMC, FedRAMP, or Microsoft 365 GCC High - Familiarity with GCP and with the company's own automation platform - Experience supporting secure enterprise AI adoption or preparing systems documentation for compliance requirements

- Target annual compensation of up to $145,000 base salary plus equity - US-based role with a preference for candidates in the Eastern Time Zone to support close collaboration with a Boston-based IT manager and staff systems engineer - Boston-area candidates have opportunities to collaborate in person, with working arrangements discussed during the interview process
