About this role
Role overview Lead the technical build and launch of a multi-tenant SaaS platform, taking responsibility for architecture, data protection, payments, integrations, and production operations. A central early objective is moving around 60 customers and their records from a legacy platform, with a parallel operating period to check the transition. You’ll also guide a product founder who contributes code, helping shape work and review changes as the product develops.
Responsibilities - Set technical direction for the application, data model, security, testing, and code review; approve changes before release. - Establish engineering foundations including PostgreSQL with row-level security, authentication, billing, background jobs, email, and third-party integrations. - Build a test workflow using tools such as Vitest, Playwright, and GitHub Actions. - Plan and lead the customer migration, including validation and a two-week parallel run. - Operate the production service with logging, monitoring, alerts, incident response, and attention to performance and cost. - Document the system and help recruit and lead the next engineer.
Requirements - Five or more years of professional software engineering, including at least two years building and operating a multi-tenant SaaS product. - Strong TypeScript, React, and Next.js App Router experience, including server-side features and caching. - Deep PostgreSQL knowledge across schema design, migrations, indexes, query performance, and row-level security. - Experience with production security and data protection, payments, integrations, and dependable release practices. - Ability to work independently, explain technical risks clearly, and make practical recommendations to non-specialists. - Comfortable reviewing and guiding code written by a non-engineer using AI tools, while maintaining quality and delivery pace.
Nice to have Experience with Supabase and relevant product integrations or operational tools is useful. The source also mentions audit logging, UK GDPR, email services, mapping, search optimization, and web performance as relevant areas.
