Senior Node.js Software Engineer - Holepunch (100% Remote, Worldwide)

Role overview

Develop and maintain the components that support peer-to-peer communication, while expanding a large ecosystem of reusable JavaScript modules. The work focuses on production-scale Node.js software, modular design, and reliable networking across distributed systems. This is a fully remote position open to candidates worldwide, with collaboration across a globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain peer-to-peer stack components in Node.js. - Extend and support a broad collection of public npm modules and shared code. - Design software as modular, maintainable components that can be reused across projects. - Test and debug production software, investigating issues across distributed environments. - Collaborate remotely with teammates and communicate technical work clearly.

Requirements

- Proven experience developing production-scale applications with Node.js. - Strong ability to write modular, maintainable code. - Experience creating and managing reusable npm modules. - Solid testing and debugging skills. - Interest or experience in peer-to-peer technologies or distributed systems. - Comfort working remotely with colleagues across locations, supported by good communication skills.

Nice to have

- Experience building native Node.js extensions in C or C++, or connecting JavaScript to lower-level code. - Ability to improve network or system performance, including latency or throughput. - Familiarity with advanced networking concepts. - Contributions to open-source projects, especially in peer-to-peer or decentralized technology.
