Product Engineering Lead, Keet (100% Remote, Worldwide)

Role overview Remote leadership role for a fully peer-to-peer messaging and video calling application built on a distributed, local-first stack with end-to-end encryption. The position reports to the CTO and splits roughly 70% engineering leadership and 30% product partnership, guiding both the API team and the frontend team to deliver consumer-grade features at global scale.

Responsibilities - Run the API and frontend teams day to day, unblocking work, reviewing output, and keeping delivery on track. - Set and uphold a high engineering bar for performance, reliability, and clean APIs. - Own the technical design of features and the API surface between the core engine and the application. - Partner with product managers to translate vision and roadmap into scoped, buildable work. - Provide an engineering perspective on product decisions, especially where peer-to-peer architecture enables capabilities centralized apps cannot match. - Mentor team leads, clarify goals, and lead by example when needed.

Requirements - Experience managing engineers or engineering leads who ship consumer products, ideally in chat, calling, or social apps. - Strong product sense with the ability to distinguish meaningful features from busywork. - Intuition for distributed and local-first systems, including offline-first design and eventual consistency; deep P2P protocol expertise is not required. - Deep proficiency in JavaScript and React. - Initiative, curiosity, resilience, and comfort giving and receiving direct critique.

Nice to have - Experience with local-first applications, CRDTs or sync engines, offline-capable mobile or desktop apps, or open-source projects.
