Job details
About this role
Role overview
This position focuses on a local, on-device artificial intelligence assistant designed to give users greater control over their data and how they use AI. The product sits within a broader peer-to-peer ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on privacy-preserving, on-device inference. The selected candidate will partner closely with the Product Lead to convert a long-term vision into tangible features, guiding work from discovery through delivery and iteration.
Responsibilities
- Translate the product vision into specific use cases, feature proposals, and written requirements grounded in user research and hands-on experimentation. - Conduct user research and gather feedback to understand how people use AI in everyday workflows, identifying where AI adds real value versus where simpler approaches suffice. - Produce product briefs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and user flows that make scope, constraints, and success measures clear to engineering and design. - Build wireframes, mockups, and working prototypes, using AI-assisted tools to iterate quickly and communicate intended behavior. - Collaborate with engineers on technical trade-offs around response quality, latency, memory, battery, and privacy implications for the user experience. - Support prioritization, scope clarification, dependency tracking, and backlog grooming, then shepherd assigned features through build, QA, and release. - Monitor new AI models, tools, and interaction patterns, and recommend which are worth prototyping or adopting.
Requirements
- 7+ years of product management experience, ideally on AI software products working alongside technical engineering teams. - Hands-on experience building, shipping, or prototyping AI-powered features, with the ability to explain personal contribution and lessons learned. - Working knowledge of AI fundamentals such as inference, harnesses, model capabilities and limits, context handling, and evaluation, with curiosity about local and on-device AI. - Ability to convert ambiguous ideas into a defined user problem, proposed solution, and actionable requirements. - Strong product judgment focused on usability, scope, and measurable user value, plus confidence building prototypes with design or coding tools. - Clear written and verbal communication skills, comfortable discussing technical trade-offs with engineers and explaining them to non-technical colleagues. - Familiarity with product analytics, user research methods, and iterative software development practices.
Nice to have
- Experience with local AI, on-device inference, or open-source models. - Background building AI assistants, conversational interfaces, or multimodal features. - Familiarity with desktop application environments.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote position with a globally distributed team. - Collaborative environment with lean, fast-moving structure. - Opportunity to work on privacy-focused AI at the intersection of consumer software and decentralized infrastructure.
