Remote job
Data Platform Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build the platform software that connects enterprise systems and makes their data accessible for applications, analytics, and AI. The role spans backend engineering and data infrastructure, with ownership of reusable services and connectors from design through production operations. Remote candidates are welcome, with a preference for people based in the Bay Area.
Responsibilities - Develop services and APIs for data access, query execution, ingestion, and synchronization. - Create reusable connector frameworks and abstractions for varied systems and access patterns. - Improve query and data movement performance through techniques such as partitioning, parallel execution, and effective memory and storage management. - Build orchestration, retries, checkpoints, and observability to support reliable recovery and data correctness. - Work with product and engineering partners to define interfaces, make architectural trade-offs, and operate deployed capabilities.
Requirements - At least two years of experience as a data platform engineer. - Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience building maintainable production software and tests. - Experience developing backend services, data infrastructure, or platform components—not only configuring data pipelines. - Understanding of relational databases, query optimization, data formats, and the trade-offs between querying in place and materializing data. - Experience with concurrent or distributed workloads, including failure handling, resource management, and performance debugging. - Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems and turn complex needs into practical designs.
Nice to have - Experience with analytical query engines, lakehouse technologies, workflow orchestration, enterprise integrations, or containerized infrastructure. - Background building connector libraries, developer-facing APIs, or shared platforms for engineering teams. - Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, including networking, storage, identity and access management, and infrastructure as code.
