Staff Software Engineer, AI Engineering

Role overview We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) engineering organization, focused on embedding AI-native capabilities into a billing and revenue platform that serves healthcare providers. This senior individual contributor role sits at the intersection of distributed systems architecture, applied AI, and product engineering, with responsibility for shaping technical strategy and establishing standards for AI-powered services.

Responsibilities - Identify high-value opportunities to embed AI into backend services and operational workflows, improving efficiency, accuracy, and decision support across billing, payments, and claims. - Design and ship production-grade AI-enabled services that combine application logic, APIs, and machine learning models to address real customer and operational use cases. - Integrate large language models, ML models, and external AI services using robust engineering patterns for reliability, observability, and maintainability. - Build auditable AI workflows with clear fallback behavior, automated evaluation, and human-in-the-loop review where appropriate. - Architect scalable, cloud-native solutions and contribute to technical direction across teams, including code reviews and mentorship of junior engineers. - Monitor performance across frontend and backend layers, surface bottlenecks, and drive continuous optimization.

Requirements - 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building scalable distributed systems with a track record of driving architectural decisions. - 2-3+ years hands-on experience designing, shipping, and maintaining production AI-enabled applications that combine LLMs with core application logic and business workflows. - Practical experience with AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or CrewAI, plus deep familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, prompt engineering, and context management. - Strong background in event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, and messaging platforms such as Kafka. - Experience implementing enterprise AI safeguards including real-time observability, latency and cost monitoring, automated evaluation pipelines, and fallback mechanisms. - Proficiency with Spring Boot, Java, React, and a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Nice to have - Prior experience building autonomous, multi-step agentic systems using multi-tier memory networks and recursive reasoning. - Background in healthcare IT, revenue cycle management, claims processing, fintech, or other regulated high-compliance transaction environments.
