Software Engineer (Python)

Role overview Build and operate the Python services that power a large-scale e-commerce platform serving millions of shoppers. The role spans designing new features, improving the reliability and performance of existing systems, and participating in architecture decisions across the engineering organization. You will partner with business stakeholders while contributing to a 24/7 production environment, including rotating after-hours incident support.

Responsibilities - Design and build solutions that improve customer experience and empower internal business users. - Architect systems together with your team and contribute to architecture proposals across the engineering organization. - Write robust, high-quality production code for complex, high-scale services, with a focus on REST and RPC APIs in Python. - Strengthen functional and non-functional testing practices, including developing and maintaining automation tests. - Respond to production incidents, triage alerts, and drive resolution of issues that span multiple teams. - Champion, challenge, and iterate on engineering best practices, processes, and technical direction. - Review and contribute to internal documentation, share knowledge through blog posts, tech talks, and workshops, and keep current on technology trends relevant to the platform.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree or advanced diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - 5 to 10 years in a software development role for a senior-level position, with a thorough grasp of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms. - Production experience writing robust, efficient code and proficiency in a strongly typed open-source language such as Python, Java, or Go. - Practical exposure to RESTful APIs and web services, SQL database systems, and Linux-based development environments. - Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to disaggregate ambiguous problems and structure solutions. - Clear written and verbal communication, a solutions-oriented mindset, and the appetite to learn by doing.

Nice to have - Familiarity with microservices architecture and Agile delivery practices. - Hands-on experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL, plus caching technologies such as Memcached or Redis. - Exposure to message brokers and pub/sub systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, and to containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes. - Comfort with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, Travis CI, or Jenkins, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Frontend familiarity with JavaScript, React, or jQuery.
