Software Engineering Intern - Security

Role overview This Winter 2027 internship (January 4 to April 30, 2027) places a student on the Security team of a fast-growing consumer fintech, contributing to application and infrastructure security work across the software lifecycle. The intern will report to a Staff Security Engineer and collaborate with product engineering, DevOps, and Fraud teams on tooling, automation, and offensive testing.

Responsibilities

- Help add security tooling and automated checks to CI/CD pipelines. - Build and improve security utilities and automation, primarily in Python, including proofs of concept that leverage AI tooling. - Conduct offensive testing to surface vulnerabilities in web and backend products before attackers find them. - Triage findings from security tools and patch straightforward issues such as dependency version bumps. - Partner with product engineers, DevOps, and Fraud to ensure secure-by-default development practices.

Requirements

- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience. - Familiarity with the OWASP Top 10 and common vulnerability classes, plus some hands-on vulnerability discovery through CTFs, labs, or coursework. - Comfort with web technologies and networking fundamentals such as HTTP, REST APIs, TLS, and DNS. - Solid programming fundamentals, with Python preferred. - Curiosity, a strong willingness to learn, and the ability to communicate across engineering and DevOps teams.

Nice to have

- Security certifications such as Security+, eJPT, or PJMT, and prior security or software internship experience. - Bug bounty or CTF success, interest in applying AI or LLMs to security work, exposure to AWS or Kubernetes, mobile development or mobile security, or visible personal projects on GitHub.
