Role overview This position owns the health, direction, and performance of the technical account management function across the entire book of named accounts and partner-mapped relationships. The leader acts as both player and coach, accountable for coverage decisions, escalation outcomes, and cross-functional alignment, while developing individual technical account managers into proactive, relationship-first partners who scale beyond reactive support.
Responsibilities - Hire, onboard, and ramp new technical account managers through a structured development path - Run regular one-on-ones, set individual development plans, and provide direct feedback on account plans, quarterly business reviews, and escalation handling - Build and maintain repeatable playbooks for upgrade runbooks, optimization patterns, and escalation procedures - Own the coverage model across named accounts and partner-mapped accounts spanning multiple strategic tiers - Rebalance books as annual recurring revenue and strategic relationships shift on a quarterly cadence - Resolve coverage gaps, approve leadership-discretion assignments, and make trim or reassign calls when accounts are dropped for capacity - Represent patterns across the whole book to engineering, product, sales, and partnerships leadership
Requirements - Background in engineering, site reliability engineering, or technical consulting - Track record of leading a technical, customer-facing team and developing people from good to great - Ability to evaluate 100+ accounts and partner relationships and tell where coverage is thin or an account should change tiers - Comfortable being the senior voice in a high-severity, multi-stakeholder incident, coordinating across support, engineering, and customer success - Communication range to brief executives on portfolio health and coach a team member through root cause analysis in the same day - Awareness that leader performance shows up in aggregate net retention across the book
Nice to have - Ability to go deep on database internals, scalability, security posture, and infrastructure tradeoffs - Credibility working a strategic account directly when needed
