Postgres Deployment Engineer (Nix)

Role overview

Join a PostgreSQL team focused on owning the stability and deployment lifecycle of a Postgres-based product portfolio. The role bridges product and infrastructure, packaging software with Nix, managing PostgreSQL upgrades, and continuously improving release tooling so developers can ship safely.

Responsibilities

- Package software into the public PostgreSQL repository using Nix with flakes, and help migrate remaining packaging toward Nix over time - Manage PostgreSQL lifecycles, ensuring timely major, minor, and extension upgrades - Expand platform release systems to let developers increasingly self-serve their deployments - Optimize CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, internal tooling, and testing and release workflows - Proactively identify and resolve production issues affecting customer deployments - Maintain best practices and automated tests that reduce deployment risk

Requirements

- Three or more years of experience with PostgreSQL and its ecosystem, including extensions and performance work - Proven infrastructure expertise across management, tooling, and optimization - Proficiency in the Nix package manager including flakes, alongside Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes - Experience building for multiple architectures, particularly Linux and macOS on Apple silicon - Comfort working in polyglot build environments spanning C/C++, Go, JavaScript, and Rust - Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences, including with customers - Experience in async, globally distributed teams with an independent, proactive working style
