Database Support Engineer (APAC)

Role overview Join a globally distributed support team as a senior Database Support Engineer, helping developer-facing customers troubleshoot complex issues and get the most out of a Postgres-powered backend platform. The work blends deep technical investigation, consultative guidance, and close collaboration with an engineering team building developer tools at scale. Responsibilities

- Investigate and resolve advanced customer issues spanning Postgres, authentication, row-level security, storage, realtime, edge functions, and client libraries. - Provide proactive, consultative advice to advanced users on workload optimization and common pitfalls. - Reproduce bugs, isolate root causes, propose workarounds, and escalate to engineering with clear reproduction steps. - Ask targeted questions that turn vague or incomplete reports into well-defined support cases. - Communicate clearly and empathetically with users of all skill levels, especially during high-impact incidents. - Identify recurring patterns across tickets and recommend improvements to documentation, tooling, and the product. - Mentor junior team members and contribute to raising overall support quality.

Requirements

- 7+ years of experience in technical support, databases, backend engineering, site reliability engineering, or similar roles. - Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including internals such as autovacuum behavior, WAL growth, long-running transactions, and table bloat. - Strong skills in high-performance SQL and query optimization. - Comfort troubleshooting complex setups, including multi-tenant schema patterns and distributed system behavior. - Hands-on experience handling data migration issues such as pg_dump/restore, schema drift, and failed migration recovery. - Familiarity with cloud hosting providers like AWS, and confidence working in terminal and Linux environments. - Operational mindset suited to high-volume queues, with the ability to form and test assumptions quickly.
