Python Engineer

Role overview A remote, full-time engineering role owning the production pipeline that transforms raw screen recordings into finished, translated demo videos. The work centers on Python and media-processing tooling: clipping, voiceover generation, caption rendering, audio mixing, and final file muxing. The position suits an engineer with roughly three to six years of experience who treats video output quality as a first-class concern.

Responsibilities - Build and maintain the rendering pipeline that runs on a serverless container platform, using FFmpeg for cutting, muxing, and encoding. - Integrate text-to-speech across multiple providers, including word-level timing so generated audio stays synchronised with the picture. - Improve caption rendering across diverse writing systems, handling font selection and text direction correctly for scripts beyond Latin. - Keep render times predictable, since small regressions in latency reach every user. - Handle retries, partial failures, and jobs that fail halfway through large files, with robust instrumentation that pinpoints which stage produced a bad render. - Review rendered output, not only code: actually watching the produced video is part of the workflow.

Requirements - Strong Python skills and comfort reading stack traces from subprocesses you did not write. - Real hands-on experience with FFmpeg or comparable media-processing tools, including an understanding of why re-encoding is expensive. - Care about correctness in systems whose output is a media file nobody reviews line by line. - Willingness to debug by inspecting artefacts directly, not only logs. - Sound judgement about when to optimise versus when the simpler, slower version is acceptable.

Nice to have - Familiarity with serverless container platforms such as Modal. - Audio work including loudness normalisation or forced alignment. - Working knowledge of Supabase or Postgres beyond basic CRUD. - A track record of shipping software where latency was a product requirement.
