Role overview Become part of a globally distributed platform team that owns the backend services behind a popular text-to-speech product used by tens of millions of people across mobile, desktop, web, and browser extension clients. The work covers a public TTS API alongside internal systems for payments, analytics, authentication, and subscriptions. The role is a strong match for engineers who think strategically, move quickly, and enjoy collaborating on product direction as well as technical design.
Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain APIs including the public TTS API and internal services for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking, meeting business and scalability needs - Oversee the entire backend API landscape, optimizing for performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability - Contribute to B2B offerings, supporting integration and customization requests from enterprise clients - Coordinate with cross-functional product and engineering teams to keep backend architecture aligned with user experience and product strategy
Requirements - Substantial professional experience in backend development using TypeScript and Node.js - Direct hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and familiarity with AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers - Ability to triage and prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact, executing efficiently - Strong written and verbal communication skills suited to a flat, remote-first organization
Nice to have - Practical experience with Docker and containerized deployments - Track record deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes
