Role overview
A platform engineering role focused on the backend services that power a widely used text-to-speech product serving tens of millions of readers across web, mobile, and browser extension surfaces. The platform team owns core services such as payments, subscriptions, authentication, analytics, and external APIs, making this a key position for an engineer who enjoys shaping product direction in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain APIs spanning public-facing services and internal systems for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking - Steward the broader backend API landscape, improving performance, scalability, and maintainability across services - Collaborate on B2B integrations and customization efforts tailored to enterprise client needs - Partner with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with overall product strategy and user experience - Contribute to infrastructure decisions that support reliability and rapid iteration
Requirements
- Proven backend development experience with TypeScript and Node.js - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and working familiarity with AWS, Azure, or comparable cloud providers - Ability to prioritize work by urgency and impact, moving efficiently from idea to implementation - Strong communication skills and a results-driven, ownership-oriented work ethic - Experience designing and operating production APIs at scale

- Docker and containerized deployment experience - Proficiency deploying and operating high-availability applications on Kubernetes
