Located in Shenzhen, China, this role focuses on the platform engineering foundation behind a popular text-to-speech application used by millions to listen to documents, articles, and books across mobile and desktop. The position covers the design, build, and continuous improvement of backend services spanning payments, subscriptions, authentication, analytics, and a public TTS API. It is ideal for a strategic engineer who enjoys shipping quickly, shaping product direction, and operating within a flat, fully distributed organization.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain a portfolio of APIs, including the public TTS endpoint and internal services for payment processing, subscription management, authentication, and usage tracking - Optimize the entire backend API surface for performance, scalability, and developer ergonomics - Partner on B2B initiatives, customizing backend capabilities to support enterprise customers and integration partners - Work closely with product, frontend, and research teams to align technical architecture with broader product strategy
Requirements
- Professional experience developing production backends with TypeScript and Node.js - Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform and familiarity with AWS, Azure, or other major cloud providers - Ability to evaluate and prioritize work based on urgency and business impact - Strong written and verbal communication suited to a fast, remote-first organization

- Experience with Docker and modern container-based deployment pipelines - Confidence deploying and operating high-availability systems on Kubernetes
