Role overview
A distributed text-to-speech product team is hiring a Platform Software Engineer to build and operate the backend services that power a suite of consumer reading apps, browser extensions, and enterprise integrations. The role centers on designing scalable APIs, optimizing service performance, and partnering cross-functionally to ship new product capabilities in a fast-moving, asynchronous environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend APIs, including a public text-to-speech API and internal services for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and usage tracking - Improve the overall backend landscape with a focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability - Partner with product and business teams on B2B integrations, tailoring backend behavior to enterprise customer needs - Align backend architecture decisions with broader product strategy and user experience goals - Contribute to deployment, observability, and operational improvements across the platform
Requirements
- Proven professional experience in backend development with TypeScript and Node.js - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and familiarity with AWS, Azure, or comparable cloud providers - Ability to move quickly from ideation through implementation, prioritizing work by urgency and impact - Strong communication skills and a bias toward ownership in a flat, distributed organization

- Experience with Docker and containerized deployment workflows - Proficiency operating highly available applications on Kubernetes
