About this role
Role overview Join a fully distributed platform engineering team of roughly 200 people building the backend for a text-to-speech product used by more than 50 million readers worldwide. The Platform team owns every backend service — including payments, analytics, subscriptions, internal infrastructure, and the public text-to-speech API — and this role is positioned for an engineer who enjoys fast-paced environments and wants a real voice in product decisions. Work is asynchronous with no central office, and the organization runs a flat structure where leadership emerges from consistent technical delivery. This position is based remotely from Lviv, Ukraine.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain robust APIs including a public text-to-speech API and internal services for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. - Own and evolve the full backend API landscape, optimizing for performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability. - Partner with go-to-market and product teams on B2B integrations, tailoring APIs and customization options for enterprise customers. - Align backend architecture with broader product strategy and user experience goals through close collaboration with cross-functional teams. - Contribute to a flat engineering culture by demonstrating strong technical judgment, clear communication, and a bias toward shipping.
Requirements - Proven backend engineering experience with TypeScript and Node.js. - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, plus working familiarity with AWS, Azure, or another major cloud provider. - Ability to move from idea to implementation quickly, prioritizing work by urgency and business impact. - Solid communication skills and a results-driven, ownership-oriented work style. - Comfort working in a fast-paced, fully remote, asynchronous environment.
Nice to have - Experience with Docker and containerized deployment pipelines. - Proficiency running high-availability production workloads on Kubernetes.
Benefits and work setup - 100% remote, distributed team with an emphasis on asynchronous work and autonomy. - A flat organization where high performers can quickly take on leadership responsibility. - Competitive compensation and a focus on outcomes over hours. - Work on a product that improves accessibility for readers with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences. - A position at the intersection of AI and consumer audio, with meaningful influence over product direction.
