Role overview Join a 100% distributed platform engineering team responsible for the backend systems that support a leading text-to-speech product used by tens of millions of people worldwide. The team owns services spanning payments, analytics, subscriptions, authentication, and a public TTS API, forming the technical backbone of the product. The position is ideal for a strategic engineer who enjoys a flat, fast-paced culture, takes ownership of product decisions, and is motivated by work that has a real social impact.
Responsibilities - Build and evolve robust APIs including the public TTS API and internal services for payment, subscription, authentication, and consumption tracking, balancing business goals with scalability - Manage the broader backend API landscape, focusing on performance tuning, reliability, and maintainability - Support B2B initiatives by addressing enterprise integration and customization requirements - Partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure backend decisions align with product strategy and user experience
Requirements - Solid professional background in backend engineering with TypeScript and Node.js - Hands-on work with Google Cloud Platform and working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other major cloud providers - Capacity to prioritize by urgency and impact and to move efficiently from idea to implementation - Clear communication skills and a strong work ethic, suited to remote, asynchronous collaboration
Nice to have - Experience with Docker and containerized deployment patterns - Comfort deploying and operating high-availability workloads on Kubernetes
