About this role
Role overview A platform engineering position focused on building and operating the backend services that power a widely used text-to-speech product. The role spans public and internal APIs, B2B integrations, and core systems such as payments, subscriptions, authentication, and analytics. It suits someone who enjoys fast-paced product work, thinks strategically about architecture, and wants broad influence over how backend systems scale and evolve.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain APIs across the platform, including a public text-to-speech endpoint and internal services for billing, account management, authentication, and usage tracking. - Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of the existing backend API landscape. - Partner on B2B solutions, tailoring integrations and customizations for enterprise customers. - Align backend architecture with broader product strategy and user experience goals through close collaboration with cross-functional teams. - Evaluate trade-offs and prioritize work based on urgency, impact, and scalability requirements.
Requirements - Proven professional experience in backend development with TypeScript and Node.js. - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, plus familiarity with AWS, Azure, or comparable cloud providers. - Ability to move quickly from ideation to implementation while prioritizing effectively. - Strong communication skills and a results-driven, ownership-oriented work ethic. - Comfort working in a flat, distributed organization where leadership is earned through consistent delivery.
Nice to have - Experience with Docker and containerized deployments. - Proficiency running high-availability workloads on Kubernetes.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, asynchronous-first culture with no physical office. - High degree of autonomy and the chance to shape both product and technical direction. - Team environment that emphasizes innovation, intuition, and execution speed. - Work at the intersection of AI and audio, contributing to a product used to support people with learning differences such as dyslexia and ADHD. - Competitive compensation and a condensed technical interview process designed to wrap up within roughly one week.
