Role overview
A backend engineering position within the platform group responsible for the services behind a popular text-to-speech reading application available on iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and the web. The role is fully remote inside a distributed engineering culture and focuses on API design, system reliability, and supporting both consumer experiences and B2B enterprise integrations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend APIs including a public text-to-speech interface and internal services covering payments, subscriptions, authentication, and usage tracking - Manage and improve the full backend API landscape, emphasizing scalability, performance, and code health - Work with the B2B team to deliver customization and integration features tailored to enterprise clients - Collaborate with cross-functional partners to keep the backend aligned with product direction and user experience goals - Balance rapid delivery with engineering rigor, prioritizing work by impact and urgency
Requirements
- Demonstrated backend engineering experience with TypeScript and Node.js in production environments - Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform plus working familiarity with AWS, Azure, or comparable providers - Track record of moving from idea to shipped solution quickly and reliably - Self-directed approach suited to a flat organization where leadership is earned through execution - Clear, proactive communication skills for working across a fully distributed team
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized build/deploy pipelines - Comfort running highly available workloads on Kubernetes
