Role overview A fast-growing, fully distributed software team is hiring a Platform Software Engineer to build and maintain the backend services powering a widely used text-to-speech product suite across mobile, desktop, browser, and web. The platform team owns payments, analytics, subscriptions, new product launches, core TTS services, and external APIs in a flat, high-velocity organization where technical leadership is earned through consistent delivery. This role suits an engineer who pairs strong fundamentals with product instincts and enjoys shaping backend architecture that touches millions of users.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain robust APIs, including a public text-to-speech API and internal services for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking - Oversee the full backend API landscape, continuously improving performance, scalability, and maintainability - Partner with cross-functional colleagues on B2B integrations, tailoring solutions and customization to enterprise client needs - Align backend architecture with broader product strategy and user-experience goals - Make pragmatic technical decisions that balance rapid iteration with long-term reliability
Requirements - Proven professional experience in backend development with TypeScript and Node.js - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, plus working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or comparable cloud providers - Ability to move efficiently from ideation to implementation, prioritizing work by urgency and business impact - Strong communication skills and a results-driven work ethic suited to a fast-paced, asynchronous environment - Experience designing systems that scale to large user bases
Nice to have - Production experience with Docker and containerized deployment pipelines - Proficiency deploying and operating high-availability applications on Kubernetes
