Role overview This Italy-based platform engineering position focuses on the backend systems behind a widely used text-to-speech reading product. The work spans public and internal APIs, billing and account services, usage measurement, and the infrastructure needed to support new products and enterprise integrations. The role suits an experienced TypeScript/Node.js engineer who enjoys making both architectural and product decisions while delivering reliable results in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain robust APIs for text-to-speech capabilities and internal functions such as payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. - Take a broad view of the backend service landscape, identifying opportunities to improve speed, scalability, reliability, and ease of maintenance. - Partner on B2B solutions, including tailored integrations and technical adaptations required by enterprise customers. - Coordinate with other teams so that backend decisions support the wider product roadmap and create a high-quality user experience.
Requirements - A strong track record in backend software development, with TypeScript and Node.js specifically required. - Direct Google Cloud Platform experience plus working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other major cloud environments. - Capacity to develop ideas rapidly into production-quality implementations and to sequence work by urgency and impact. - Clear communication, strategic judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across disciplines.
Nice to have - Practical knowledge of Docker and other container-based deployment practices. - Experience running highly available workloads with Kubernetes.
