Role overview This backend platform role supports the services that power an audio-based reading product, including text-to-speech, payments, analytics, subscriptions, authentication, usage tracking, and external integrations. Based in Amsterdam, the position combines hands-on TypeScript/Node.js engineering with architectural decisions, enterprise customization, and collaboration across product teams. It is suited to a pragmatic engineer who works quickly, communicates clearly, and can balance technical quality with business and user-experience priorities.
Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs, including the public text-to-speech API and internal services for payments, subscriptions, authentication, and consumption tracking. - Improve the wider backend API landscape through performance optimization, stronger maintainability, and solutions that meet evolving scalability requirements. - Contribute to B2B integrations by understanding enterprise customization needs and helping translate them into reliable technical designs. - Work with cross-functional teams to align backend architecture with product strategy, delivery priorities, and the overall user experience.
Requirements - Proven professional experience in backend development using TypeScript and Node.js. - Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and familiarity with AWS, Azure, or comparable cloud providers. - Ability to move efficiently from ideation to implementation while prioritizing work according to urgency and expected impact. - Strong communication, ownership, and follow-through in a fast-paced delivery environment.
Nice to have - Experience with Docker and containerized deployment workflows. - Experience deploying and operating highly available applications on Kubernetes.
