About this role
Role overview A senior engineering position focused on a Windows desktop application that converts written content into audio for millions of users worldwide. The product helps people read faster, read more, and retain more by removing barriers to accessing text. You will operate as a technical lead within a fully distributed engineering organization, owning major parts of the Windows platform.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where required - Define and enforce best practices for code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, and cross-version support on Windows 10 and 11 - Drive accessibility initiatives by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and related frameworks, validating screen reader, keyboard navigation, and focus behavior - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to plan features, define UI architecture, and shape the platform roadmap - Take end-to-end ownership of features from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance - Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering problems, and compatibility issues
Requirements - Three or more years building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK or WinUI, C#, and XAML, ideally with additional native Windows experience in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including managed-to-native interop via .NET - History of shipping production-quality desktop software with a focus on reliability and scalability - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a dedication to building inclusive software - Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and async or multi-threaded programming - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions - Strong communication skills and a user-centric mindset
Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers - Performance optimization for memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI, and responsiveness - Localization, internationalization, and right-to-left UI support - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop apps - Background in CI/CD pipelines and release workflows for desktop software
