About this role
Role overview A senior engineering role dedicated to a Windows desktop reading product used by millions of people globally. The application converts text such as articles, documents, and books into speech, helping users read faster and retain more. You will lead architecture, accessibility, and feature delivery as part of a fully distributed engineering organization.
Responsibilities - Direct the design, architecture, and development of native Windows applications built on Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when appropriate - Establish and maintain standards for code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, and Windows 10 and 11 compatibility - Champion accessibility by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and similar frameworks, ensuring reliable screen reader, focus, and keyboard support - Work closely with designers, UX researchers, and QA to define feature plans, UI architecture, and the platform roadmap - Own features through the full lifecycle, from concept and design to implementation, testing, release, and long-term maintenance - Track down and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems
Requirements - Three or more years building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK or WinUI, C#, and XAML, ideally with native code in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and .NET interop with native components - Track record of shipping production-quality desktop software focused on reliability and scalability - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a commitment to inclusive design - Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming - Demonstrated ability to lead technical design, mentor engineers, run code reviews, and drive architectural decisions - Clear written and verbal communication, plus a user-focused mindset
Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience including unit, integration, and UI automation tests - Performance optimization expertise for startup time, memory footprint, high-DPI rendering, and responsiveness - Localization, globalization, and right-to-left UI support experience - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop apps - Experience shaping CI/CD pipelines and release strategies for desktop software
Benefits and work setup - High-impact position influencing a product used by millions of readers - Collaborative flat engineering culture with autonomy and decision-making authority - Growth path into broader technical leadership roles - Fully remote work with end-to-end ownership of features and product direction - Salary range for Bulgaria-based candidates: 30,000–55,000 USD per year, plus bonus and equity, depending on experience
