About this role

Role overview

A senior engineering position focused on leading the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications built with modern Windows frameworks. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic ownership, including driving accessibility, shaping engineering practices, and delivering inclusive software used by millions of people. Work takes place within a fully distributed engineering organization.

Responsibilities

- Lead architecture and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or related UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and C++ when appropriate - Define and enforce engineering best practices covering code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility across Windows 10/11+, and long-term maintainability - Drive accessibility initiatives including integration of Windows accessibility APIs, focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader support - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders on feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and platform roadmap - Own the full feature lifecycle from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions

Requirements

- 3+ years of experience building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar frameworks, C#, and XAML, ideally plus native code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM) - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed (.NET) and native code - Demonstrated history of shipping production-quality desktop software with emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs such as Microsoft UI Automation and a commitment to building inclusive software - Strong computer science fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming - Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions, with strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have

- Experience writing automated UI tests (unit, integration, and UI automation) with relevant frameworks - Background in desktop performance optimization including startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, and responsiveness under load - Familiarity with localization, globalization, right-to-left UI support, and multi-region accessibility - Experience with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications - Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, release management, and deployment strategies for desktop software - Track record of long-term ownership of modules or feature areas, including refactoring and managing technical debt

Benefits and work setup

- High-impact role defining architecture and shaping the future direction of a widely used Windows product - Collaborative, flat-structure engineering culture that values autonomy and shared decision-making - Opportunities to mentor teammates and grow into broader technical leadership - Fully distributed, remote work model - Mission-driven work centered on reliable, accessible, and user-focused software
