About this role
Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building and advancing a native Windows desktop application used by millions of people worldwide. The position combines hands-on architecture and implementation with technical leadership, ensuring the product is reliable, performant, and inclusive. The work spans the full lifecycle of desktop features on Windows 10/11+.
Responsibilities - Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using the Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed. - Establish and uphold engineering standards across the codebase, covering performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility, and long-term maintainability. - Drive accessibility work, including integration of Windows accessibility APIs, focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader validation. - Partner with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape platform roadmap, feature planning, and UI/UX architecture. - Own features end-to-end from conception through release and ongoing maintenance, ensuring consistency and quality. - Diagnose and resolve complex defects, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and rendering or compatibility issues, proposing robust architectural fixes.
Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar UI frameworks), C#, and XAML, with exposure to C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed .NET code and native code. - Demonstrated track record of shipping production-quality desktop applications with attention to reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs (such as Microsoft UI Automation) and a commitment to inclusive design. - Strong CS fundamentals including OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience (unit, integration, and UI automation). - Performance tuning for desktop apps, including startup time, rendering, and high-DPI support. - Localization, internationalization, and right-to-left UI experience. - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, and error monitoring tooling. - CI/CD and release pipeline ownership for desktop applications.
Benefits and work setup - High-impact role defining the architecture of a Windows product used at scale. - Distributed engineering culture with flat structure and broad autonomy. - Opportunities for technical leadership growth, including mentoring and architecture ownership. - US-based compensation range of 140,000-200,000 USD per year plus bonus and equity, depending on experience.
